Lake Charles College Prep hung close, but didn’t get the ending it wanted in its first home game, as Delta Charter won 14-6 Friday night.
Delta Charter took a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter when running back Jalen Williams took a screen pass from Lee Lancaster 77 yards for a touchdown.
The Storm gained 17 net yards the rest of the half, with LCCP’s Shane Bradford intercepting a pass and the Blazers ending another drive with consecutive sacks.
The Blazers couldn’t get much going on offense, gaining 67 yards in the half and turning the ball over three times on a pair of fumbles and interception. Delta Charter blocked a punt and took over at the LCCP 32 in the second quarter. The Storm had a first-and-goal from the 5, but ended up punting from the 32-yard line.
Trey Poole intercepted a pass in the third quarter and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. Poole tossed a pass to Dawson Woodruff for the 2-point conversion to extend the Delta Charter lead to 14-0.
LCCP got on the board late in the third quarter when quarterback Dre Gregory found Ronald Harris in the end zone from 10 yards out for a touchdown on fourth-and-goal.
The Blazers were harmed by four turnovers and 12 penalties for 107 yards. Gregory ran for 68 yards and threw for 41 more before leaving the game midway through the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.
LCCP held Delta Charter to 34 yards rushing.
Harris had four receptions for 48 yards.
Williams led Delta Charter with 91 yards on three receptions.
The Blazers gained one first down in the fourth quarter, a 17-yard run by Gregory. On the next play, Gregory was injured after being forced out of bounds on a 5-yard run.
The loss was the 10th in a row over two seasons for the Blazers, who have yet to win.
