Bayou Segnette State Park unveils new rental cabins

WESTWEGO -- Twelve new rental cabins have been unveiled at Bayou Segnette State Park, to replace ones destroyed during Hurricane Katrina.

State officials say Louisiana spent $10.6 million building the cabins, which float on Marcello Canal, and another $500,000 furnishing them.

Office of State Parks spokeswoman Sharon Broussard tells NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune the cabins include a big living area, dining area, kitchen, two bedrooms, one bathroom and satellite television access. They are surrounded by a screened porch.

Broussard said 300 reservations already have been made.

The park had been without rental cabins since Katrina struck in 2005. The previous cabins were built in the 1980s.
