BEAUMONT, Texas — McNeese State backed its way into the Southland Conference women’s soccer tournament for the first time in two years.
M.J. Eckert scored in the 51st minute to lift Lamar to 1-0 win Friday night in the regular-season finale. But the Cowgirls (8-9-1, 4-6-1 SLC) qualified for the tournament in the sixth and final spot. The Cowgirls will play third-seeded Northwestern State (10-7-1) in the first round at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Jack Duggan Soccer Complex in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The Cardinals (2-14-3, 1-7-3) ended a 13-game winless streak with their first SLC win and just their second overall.
