LEESVILLE — The city appointed a permanent city administrator Monday, completing a five-month-long search for a candidate.
City Council members unanimously approved the appointment of Patti J. Larney, with an annual salary of $62,000 and a $100 weekly car allowance.
Larney, originally from Vernon Parish, has worked for over 30 years as a state employee in other parishes and said she is excited to return to the area.
Interim administrator DeLain Prewitt was relieved of her duties Monday to allow Larney to formally assume the post Tuesday. Many council members said the motion was bittersweet.
“I know that the time has come, and we are very happy to have made an official appointment,” at-large councilwoman Alice Guess told Prewitt. “But I am still sorry to see you go.”
Prewitt has served the council on and off since 1998, and she said she’d be available to serve again if the need should arise.
The position of city administrator opened up in May after Richard Karamatic resigned to accept the job as executive director of the Rapides Parish Coliseum.
