Leesville holds off Crowley surge

LEESVILLE — The Wampus Cats stayed atop the District 3-4A standings as they surived a second-half surge from Crowley for a 21-19 victory Friday night.

Leesville (5-4, 3-1) took a 21-0 lead into halftime, thanks in large part to a 99-yard kick return by Cory McCoy.

But Crowly cut that lead to two points with three unanswered touchdowns in second half, the last of which was a 44-yard pass from Marquis Garet to Raphues Joseph.

The difference in the game was Crowley’s failure of a pair of 2-point conversion attempts in the third quarter.

McCoy led the Wampus Cats with 103 yards and a rushing touchdown, while Joseph led the Gents with 111 yards receiving on seven catches.

RAYNE — The Charging Indians’ winning streak came to an end at two as the Wolves kept their spot atop the district standings.

Washington-Marion (3-6, 2-2) struck first as Jacobi Taylor hit Jared Clark for a 65-yard touchdown pass for a 6-0 lead.

But the Wolves (8-1, 3-1) responed with three consecutive touchdowns and never looked back.The Charging Indians struggled to move the ball but scored two touchdowns on kickoff returns by Robert Owens from 86 yards and Tavin Gricer from 60 yards to compile their highest scoring game of the season.

Rayne runing back Trent Winbush led the Wolves with 112 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, while Darien Harmon added 99 yards and a score on 14 carries.
