Body found identified as Texas woman

A body found Thursday on the shoulder of La. 27 in Hackberry has been identified as that of a missing Orange, Texas, woman, authorities said.

Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson said Friday that Christie Lynn Combs, 45, was identified by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office through dental records and shared information between Orange police and his department.

He said that, according to Orange police, Combs was reported missing in June and was last seen in Fannett, Texas, in Jefferson County.

Johnson said Combs was discovered by state highway department workers at about 11 a.m. Thursday near milepost 59.5, just south of Hog Island Gully. He said her body, wrapped in carpet, had been “dropped off” and that it was “badly decomposed.”

She had been on the side of the road for three to four weeks, Johnson said.

He said his department is working with Texas officials to determine where Combs was killed.
