Tournament of the Stars host Mardi Gras Masquerade

The Tournament of the Stars will host its second Mardi Gras-themed Masquerade from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Dec. 31 at the Charleston Hotel.

Cynthia Daigle, a volunteer for the non-profit organization, said proceeds from the New Year’s Eve event go toward scholarships for high school seniors. She said more than $25,000 in scholarships were awarded last year to more than 20 students in several Southwest Louisiana parishes.

“It’s all about our youth and continuing to engage them in positive behavior,” Daigle said. “With budget cuts for higher (education) and TOPS, we want to make sure high school seniors can apply for scholarships.”

Daigle said a panel reviews students’ resumes and decides which ones will receive the scholarships.

“We want to make sure our youth continue to be engaged and strive for excellence,” she said. “Within the last 2-3 years, we have increased the number of scholarships because we have increased our fundraising efforts.”

Daigle said there will be live music, a second line dance, food, a cash bar, and an area for people to take photos. She said those who attend can “dress as much up or down” as they choose, and this year’s colors are silver and black.

VIP tickets are $50 each or $400 per table. Presale tickets are $40 each, and tickets can be purchased at the door for $50. To buy tickets, call 274-1489.
