ANACOCO— Three people are dead after an Anacoco man fatally shot his aunt and a Leesville man Sunday and then turned the gun on himself, said the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Sam Craft said that his department responded to a call made to 911 after 7 p.m. New Year’s Day regarding the shooting of a woman at a residence on Ross Road in Anacoco. He said that deputies discovered the bodies of two people inside the home - Norma Ross, 48, of Anacoco, and Calvin Stubbs, 30, of Leesville.
Craft said that witnesses at the scene stated that Norma Ross’ nephew - Derrick Ross, 36, of Anacoco - had shot the two.
He said that the witnesses also indicated that they did not know Derrick Ross’ whereabouts at that time.
Craft said that immediate area was secured and that officers began an intense search. He said that they eventually located Derrick Ross’ body in a wooded area near the residence.
The Vernon Parish Coroner’s Office, said Craft, determined that Derrick Ross died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation into this incident continues, said Craft.
