Guinn elected new mayor of Jennings

JENNINGS — Henry Guinn, 31, was elected as the new mayor of Jennings by a narrow margin during Saturday’s runoff election.

Guinn carried the election with 1,209 votes, or 52 percent of the vote, defeating Jimmy Segura, who garnered 1,106 votes, or 48 percent, according to complete but unofficial results from the Secretary of State’s Office

Current Mayor Terry Duhon didn’t seek re-election after 14 years.

Thirty-seven percent of the city’s 6,333 registered voters turned out for the election.

In a runoff for a Fenton alderman seat, Ollie Clophus narrowly defeated Katherine “Kathy” Corbello.

Clophus got 44 votes, or 51 percent, over Corbello, who drew 42 votes, or 49 percent, with a 36 percent voter turnout.

The seat was vacated by Shawanda Sowells, who resigned shortly after being elected due to a conflict of interest with her employment with the state Department of Transportation and Development.
