HAMMOND — Southeastern Louisiana handed McNeese State its first Southland Conference loss, beating the Cowboys 10-2 Friday night.
The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. today.
Five errors and other miscues plagued the Cowboys (18-8, 9-1 SLC), who stranded nine runners.
Sophomore Shane Selman hit his fourth home run of the season, driving in both McNeese runs. Joe Provenzano had two of the Cowboys’ five hits. Robbie Podorsky’s team-high hitting streak was halted at 18 games.
Austin Sanders (2-2) took the loss, allowing seven runs — two earned —and six hits in three innings. He struck out three and walked three.
Mac Sceroler (5-0) pitched six innings for the victory. He allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked five.
Ryan Byers was 2-for-4 with four RBIs for the Lions (17-9, 6-4). Carson Crites was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Byers his his fourth homer of the season.
