Allen voters renew tax to support ambulance services

OBERLIN — Allen Parish voters renewed a 10-year, 9.76-mill property tax Saturday to support Allen Parish Ambulance Service District 1 operations.

It passed by a vote of 448-184, or 71 percent in favor, according to complete but unofficial results from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office.

The millage is expected to generate $532,924 a year. Voter turnout was 8.5 percent.

In a runoff to fill the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal’s 3rd District seat — vacated by James “Jimmy” Genovese’s election to the state Supreme Court — Allen Parish voters favored Candyce Perret.

Perret received 767 votes, or 77 percent, in Allen Parish. Opponent Susan Theall got 225 votes, or 23 percent.

Districtwide, Perret carried 26,681 votes, or 54 percent, winning the seat over Theall, who garnered 22,548 votes, or 46 percent. Voter turnout for the race was 12 percent.

The district includes eight parishes in central and Southwest Louisiana.
